Elevate kids' birthday celebrations with an out-of-this-world cake design!
Ingredients:
  • Black gel food colouring
  • 250g butter, softened and chopped, plus extra, to grease
  • 322.50 gm caster sugar
  • 8.80 gm vanilla essence
  • 450.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 257.50 gm milk
  • Blue food colouring
  • 12 white chocolate melts, to decorate
  • 10 white chocolate bits
  • 100g butter, softened
  • 150.00 gm icing sugar mixture, sifted
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 170C/150C fan-forced. Grease a 2-litre (8-cup-capacity) ovenproof glass bowl with butter. Line the base and sides with two strips of baking paper, forming a cross shape, and fill in any gaps with additional pieces of baking paper as needed.
  • Using an electric mixer, whip butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually add sifted flour and milk, stirring until smooth. Separate the batter into 3 portions. Dye one portion bright blue, another pale blue, leaving the third portion plain. Layer spoonfuls of each batch in a bowl and swirl them together with a skewer for a marble effect. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes until a skewer comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the bowl for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • In a small bowl, whip butter with an electric mixer until fluffy. Slowly incorporate icing sugar until fully blended. Color the frosting grey using black food coloring.
  • Position the cake on a cake stand or board. Generously coat the entire cake with frosting. Press white chocolate melts and chocolate bits, flat-side up, into the frosting to create a crater-like appearance. Garnish with astronauts and serve.
