Overnight French toast bake with sweet, crunchy nut topping impresses breakfast guests.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1.5 cups half-and-half
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Instructions:
  • Combine milk, half-and-half, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • Arrange the bread slices in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, then generously pour the egg mixture over them. Cover the dish and let it chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and let the French toast come to room temperature.
  • Combine the brown sugar, pecans, butter, and maple syrup until well mixed, then spread the topping evenly over the French toast.
  • Bake in the oven, without a cover, until puffed and beautifully golden for approximately 40 minutes.
