Indulge in irresistible Turkish-inspired dumplings for a taste of the Middle East at home.
Ingredients:
  • 375.00 gm water
  • 125.00 ml pistachios, chopped (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream, to serve
  • 300.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 50g butter, chopped
  • 5.00 gm ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 128.75 gm milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 107.50 gm caster sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean or 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100g golden syrup
  • 50g honey
  • 62.50 ml rose water or 2 tbsp rose essence
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 20g butter
Instructions:
  • Combine golden syrup, honey, sugar, vanilla, rose water, orange zest, juice, butter, and water in a large saucepan with a fitted lid. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved and mixture is well combined.
  • While you wait, prepare the dumplings by mixing flour, butter, and spices together until it resembles fine bread crumbs. Add milk and egg, then mix until well combined.
  • Take a portion of dough the size of a golf ball and shape it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  • Cook the dough balls in the hot syrup with a fitted lid for 10 - 15 minutes, gently turning the dumplings with a large spoon after 5 minutes. They should appear puffed and fully cooked when cut open.
  • Garnish hot dumplings with a drizzle of syrup, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and a sprinkle of pistachios for a delightful presentation.
