Indulge in Milo chocolate slice, a nostalgic Aussie dessert featuring the beloved chocolate drink powder in every bite. Perfect for lunch boxes or afternoon cravings, this versatile treat captures Milo flavors in each layer. Simply follow the recipe for a decadent delight.
Ingredients:
  • 160g (4 cups) Milo cereal, finely crushed (see notes)
  • 45g (½ cup) desiccated coconut
  • 180g milk chocolate, chopped
  • 100g butter, chopped
  • 33.60 gm solidified coconut oil
  • 65g (1/2 cup) Milo, plus extra, to sprinkle
  • 70g (1/2 cup) custard powder
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 200ml milk
  • 300ml thickened cream
  • 8 gelatine leaves
Instructions:
  • Grease a 20cm square cake pan and line with baking paper, leaving edges extended for easy removal.
  • In a large bowl, mix the crushed Milo cereal and coconut, creating a well in the center. Melt the chocolate, butter, and oil together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water until smooth. Combine with the cereal mixture, then press the mixture firmly into a pan using a spoon. Chill in the fridge as you prepare the topping.
  • For the delicious topping, mix Milo, custard powder, sugar, and 60ml (1/4 cup) milk in a saucepan. Whisk until smooth. Add the rest of the milk and cream. Cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes until the custard simmers. Stir constantly for 2 more minutes until it slightly thickens.
  • Soak gelatine leaves in cold water until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove gelatine from the bowl, squeeze out excess water, and mix it into the hot Milo custard until dissolved. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and let it cool for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until just warm. Pour the custard over the cereal base, cover, and refrigerate for at least 6 hours until set.
  • Gently slide a knife along 2 sides of the slice to release it from the pan, then lift using the baking paper. Allow it to rest at room temperature for 15 minutes to let the base become slightly softer. Cut into squares and garnish with extra Milo before serving.
