Decadent Minecraft chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and marzipan, perfect for gamers.
Ingredients:
  • 2.3333332538605 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 tablespoons milk
  • 1.3333333730698 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup cherry jam
  • 3 cups chocolate buttercream frosting
  • 14 ounces marzipan
  • 5 drops red food coloring, or as needed
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease and flour two 9-inch square cake pans.
  • Prepare the cake batter by sifting together 2 1/3 cups plus 1 1/2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Next, mix 1 cup plus 1/2 tablespoon milk in a measuring cup.
  • Cream together white sugar and butter using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the batter, mixing gently after each addition. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Prepare the cake layers by trimming the tops to create a flat surface. Place one layer on a serving platter. Spread jam on top, then add the second layer. Cover the cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, making sure to reserve about 2 tablespoons for later.
  • Take a handful of marzipan, roughly the size of a golf ball. Mix in red food coloring and knead until evenly colored.
  • Sprinkle confectioners' sugar on a flat surface and roll out the remaining undyed marzipan. Cut a 9-inch square and delicately place it on top of the cake.
  • Roll marzipan trimmings into four 9x1 1/2-inch strips. Cut three rectangular notches into one edge of each strip. Press strips onto the sides of the cake with notches facing down, then gently press the top and strips together to stick.
  • Roll out the red marzipan and cut into assorted sized squares. On the back of each square, spread some frosting to help them stick together, creating a fun, random Minecraft pattern on the cake.
