Flaky double-crust apple pie made with tangy Granny Smith apples, topped with whimsical leaf-shaped designs.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts
  • 12 unpeeled Granny Smith apples, cored and quartered
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grate the apples into a large bowl. Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly and spread onto the bottom crust. Scatter 3 tablespoons of butter over the top.
  • Place a rolled out (or packaged) pie crust on a cutting board. Use a leaf or apple cookie cutter to cut shapes from the pie crust. Arrange the cutouts evenly on top of the pie, ensuring there are small spaces between them for vent holes.
  • Place your pie in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Take it out and generously brush with 3 tablespoons of melted butter before putting it back in the oven for another 15 minutes or until it turns a beautiful golden brown. To prevent any spills, place a sheet of aluminum foil under the pan.
