Savor meaty mushroom pizza burgers - a delicious Italian meal!
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 package (8 oz) sliced fresh mushrooms (about 3 cups)
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 4 hamburger buns, split
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce, warmed
Instructions:
  • Combine the beef, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Shape the mixture into 8 patties that are 4 1/2 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick. Form 4 cheese balls using 1/4 cup each and flatten them into 3 1/2-inch-diameter patties. Place a cheese patty on top of each of 4 beef patties and cover with the remaining beef patties, sealing the edges by pinching them together.
  • Heat oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté mushrooms for 4 minutes until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Remove from heat.
  • Preheat a gas or charcoal grill to medium heat. Grill the patties for 11 to 13 minutes, flipping once, until a meat thermometer reads 160°F when inserted in the center. In the last 2 minutes, toast the buns on the grill, cut sides down.
  • Lay the burgers on the bottom buns. Spoon over the pizza sauce and mushroom mixture. Put the top buns on.
