Cinnamon sugar twisted dough knots.
Ingredients:
  • 0.67 cup sugar
  • 0.33 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 3 eggs
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Combine 2/3 cup sugar, shortening, salt, and 1 cup boiling water in a small bowl; let sit.
  • Start by combining yeast with 1/2 cup of warm water in a large bowl until dissolved. Then mix in eggs and water/sugar mixture, beating well. Add 2 cups flour and mix. Gradually stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well each time, until a stiff dough forms. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it rise until doubled, for about 45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lightly grease three 8x8 inch baking pans.
  • Mix 1 cup of sugar with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a small bowl. Shape dough into small balls, dip in melted butter, and coat with cinnamon sugar. Roll each ball into 4-inch cylinders, tie them into knots, and arrange in pans.
  • Bake until golden in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
