Classic chocolate cake with luscious chocolate glaze.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup hot water
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prep an 8-inch square pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • In a large saucepan, gently melt the shortening with cocoa until smooth. Take off the heat and whisk in sugar and egg. In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk with baking soda, salt, and vanilla, and then fold into the chocolate mixture. Gradually mix in flour and then gently stir in hot water. Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool before serving.
