Indulgent chocolate bread, a cherished recipe passed down from my mom's bridal shower to holiday gatherings. Rich, moist, and perfect for chocolate lovers.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 0.75 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 cup margarine
  • 0.75 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, soak dates in hot water with baking soda until cool. Next, gently melt chocolate chips and margarine together in a bowl over simmering water or in the microwave, stirring often until smooth.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together egg, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Mix in melted chocolate and dates. Fold in flour and baking powder until just combined. Transfer the batter to a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan. Allow it to rest for 20 minutes as you preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 1 hour until a toothpick inserted into the crown of the loaf comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan. Wrap in aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight for easier slicing the next day.
