Versatile family-favorite cake perfect for snacking or special occasions.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided
Instructions:
  • Combine plump dates with hot water in a small bowl, then let it cool down.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare a 9x13-inch pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  • Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs. Alternate adding the flour mixture with the cooled date mixture. Gently fold in the chopped nuts and 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
  • Evenly distribute the batter in the prepared pan, then generously scatter the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips on top.
  • Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
