Festive Norwegian cabbage dish with sweet, sour flavors and aromatic caraway seeds.
Ingredients:
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 large head cabbage, cored and shredded
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seed
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
  • 0.5 cup white vinegar, or to taste
  • 0.5 cup white sugar, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Start by creating a savory base in a large pot with two slices of bacon. Layer cabbage over the bacon and sprinkle with a light dusting of flour and a pinch of caraway seeds. Season with a touch of salt and pepper. Continue layering until the pot is full, repeating the process for maximum flavor.
  • Fill the pot with water until it reaches about 3/4 up the side. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 45 minutes until the cabbage is soft. Once done, let it cool slightly, then gently mix in the vinegar and sugar according to your taste preference. Aim for a harmonious balance of sweetness and acidity for the perfect flavor profile.
