French-style soft baked eggs with ham, Gruyère cheese, and chives gently cooked in creamy goodness - a delectable delight known as Oeufs cocotte.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, or to taste
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped ham
  • 2 tablespoons grated Gruyere cheese
  • 0.5 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 teaspoon chopped fresh chives
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), then grease a small casserole dish with olive oil. Boil water in a kettle and keep it ready.
  • Layer the ham at the bottom of the casserole dish. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of Gruyère cheese. Pour in cream, then season with black pepper. Gently crack the eggs on top, preserving the yolks. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of Gruyère cheese and chives. Season with salt and more black pepper to taste.
  • Cover the casserole dish and nestle it in a roasting pan. Fill the roasting pan with enough boiled water to reach halfway up the sides of the casserole dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 9 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 3 to 6 minutes until whites are set and yolks are runny.
