Elevate your mac and cheese with crispy bacon, chives, and a crunchy breadcrumb topping in this easy one-pan recipe!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups water
  • 2.5 cups milk
  • 16 ounces uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup margarine
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1.5 cups shredded white Cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 0.25 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 0.25 cup real bacon bits
  • 1 tablespoon snipped chives
Instructions:
  • In a Dutch oven on medium-high heat, mix macaroni, milk, water, garlic salt, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Simmer and stir frequently until noodles are soft and most liquid is absorbed, about 7-10 minutes.
  • Take the pot off the heat and blend in the margarine and pepper until everything is melted. Add the Cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, and stir until melted.
  • Position an oven rack 6 inches below the heat source and preheat the broiler.
  • Sprinkle pasta with a crunchy layer of bread crumbs, the final 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, and crisp bacon bits.
  • Broil Dutch oven until topping is golden and crispy, about 1 to 3 minutes. Sprinkle with chives and serve promptly.
