Delicious fluffy orange chiffon cake with options for orange glaze, chocolate, or cream cheese icing.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 cup white sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 0.33333334326744 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 egg whites
  • 0.5 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C, positioning a rack in the center. Use a 10-inch tube pan with a removable bottom, ensuring it's ungreased and not nonstick.
  • For the cake batter, sift 1/2 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl. Create a well in the center and add melted butter, orange juice, orange zest, egg yolks, and vanilla. Use an electric mixer to beat for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Whisk egg whites and cream of tartar in a big glass or metal bowl until frothy. Slowly add the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Gently fold 1/3 of the whites into the batter, then swiftly fold in the rest until fully combined.
  • Transfer the batter into the ungreased tube pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 to 75 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly touched and a toothpick comes out clean. Flip the cake upside down immediately after baking and let it cool completely in that position.
  • Invert the cake onto a plate, gently slide a knife around the edges to release it from the pan. Remove the sides, then carefully free the cake from the bottom of the pan. Transfer the cake to a serving plate right side up.
  • Prepare the glaze by mixing confectioners' sugar, orange juice, and orange zest in a small bowl. Drizzle over the cake, allowing it to cascade down the sides. Allow the glaze to set at room temperature for approximately 1 hour.
