Classic Hungarian paprika chicken dish with seasoned chicken, onions, and paprika served with potatoes and a creamy sour cream sauce, perfect with dumplings.
Ingredients:
  • 3 slices bacon
  • 1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 4 potatoes, cut into large chunks
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 0.25 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
Instructions:
  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned (about 10 minutes). Place the cooked bacon on paper towels to drain and crumble it. Keep 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet.
  • Season chicken generously with salt and pepper. Sear the chicken in the skillet with bacon grease over high heat until golden brown all over, approximately 10 minutes. Remove chicken to a plate.
  • In the same skillet, cook onions until softened, about 5 to 10 minutes. Lower heat, stir in paprika and caraway seeds, then add chicken. Cover and cook for 30 minutes. Mix in potatoes, cover, and cook until tender and chicken is cooked through, about 30 more minutes. Transfer to a serving dish.
  • Combine sour cream, parsley, and garlic powder in the skillet, stirring until the sauce is silky and velvety, for about 3 to 5 minutes. Drizzle the luscious sauce over the chicken and potatoes, then generously sprinkle with crispy bacon.
