Pear-Apple Sauce with Cherries

Slow-cooked pear and apple sauce with cherries - a sweet homemade treat to savor.
Ingredients:
  • 6 medium apples, peeled and chopped
  • 6 medium pears, peeled and chopped
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 3 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 package (5 ounces) sweetened dried cherries (1 cup)
Instructions:
  • Combine apples, pears, sugar, apple juice, 2 teaspoons of orange peel, and allspice in a 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker.
  • Cook the fruit on low heat for 7 to 8 hours until tender.
  • Use a potato masher to crush the fruit. Add the remaining 1 teaspoon of orange peel and cherries. Cook on high heat for 15 to 30 minutes until it reaches your preferred thickness. Let it cool slightly before serving warm or chilled.
