Create delightful heart-shaped mint gelatin dessert with whipped cream, flavored with egg yolks and fluffy egg whites.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package unflavored gelatin
  • 0.5 cup white sugar, divided
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1.25 cups milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3 drops red food coloring
  • 1 cup whipping cream, whipped
Instructions:
  • In a medium saucepan, mix gelatin, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks and milk, then add to the gelatin mixture.
  • In a saucepan, gently heat the gelatin and egg mixture while stirring continuously until the gelatin dissolves and the mixture slightly thickens, approximately 5 minutes. Take the saucepan off the heat and mix in peppermint extract or crushed candy.
  • Stir in food coloring and blend well. Refrigerate until the mixture thickens slightly, resembling unbeaten egg whites.
  • In a small bowl, whip egg whites until stiff peaks form. Slowly add the rest of the sugar and continue beating until very stiff. Gently fold into gelatin mixture, then fold in whipped cream.
  • Transfer the mixture into a 5-cup heart-shaped mold and refrigerate until set. Unmold the dessert and top with extra whipped cream before serving, if preferred.
