Crispy fried portabella mushrooms with garlic aioli in just 25 minutes - a quick and tasty vegetarian side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • 1 cup Progresso™ plain bread crumbs
  • 2 large portabella mushrooms, gills removed, sliced
Instructions:
  • Prepare the garlic aioli by mixing all ingredients in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Heat a generous amount of oil in a deep fat fryer or a 12-inch skillet until it reaches a temperature of 375°F, either by using a thermometer or by heating over medium heat.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together egg, milk, flour, and steak seasoning. In another large bowl, place bread crumbs. Dip sliced mushrooms in the batter, ensuring even coating. Then coat each mushroom slice with bread crumbs individually. Fry mushrooms in hot oil for 3 to 4 minutes until deeply golden, flipping once.
  • Pat dry mushrooms on paper towels or a cooling rack. Enjoy while warm with garlic aioli for dipping.
