Spicy-sweet cinnamon chili tortilla chips, broiled until crispy like pralines, perfect for Cinco de Mayo snacking.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper, or more to taste
  • 0.5 cup canola oil
  • 1 (8 ounce) package flour tortillas, cut into 2-inch squares
Instructions:
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together sugar, cinnamon, chili powder, and black pepper until well mixed.
  • Transfer canola oil to a separate bowl.
  • Position an oven rack 6 inches below the broiler element and preheat the broiler.
  • Coat tortilla squares in canola oil and seasoned sugar mixture, then lay them out on baking sheets.
  • Broil chips for 2 minutes until sugar bubbles and chips are crisp, being careful not to burn. Flip chips and broil for another 2 minutes until browned. Allow to cool before serving.
