Almond yogurt sauce elevates cinnamon caramelized crisp.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 6 cups sliced unpeeled tart eating apples (6 medium)
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons firm butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup coarsely crushed zwieback crackers
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup plain fat-free yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Combine water and 1 teaspoon of almond extract in a small bowl, then pour over the apples in the casserole dish.
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Use a pastry blender to cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add crackers and pecans, then sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
  • Bake for around 30 minutes until the topping turns a golden brown hue and the apples become tender.
  • Combine topping ingredients in a small bowl until fully blended. Sprinkle warm apple crisp with topping before serving.
