Impress your guests with a vibrant layered cake topped with delicious rainbow chip frosting from Betty Crocker™.
Ingredients:
  • 2 boxes Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Vanilla Cake Mix
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 packages (2.7 oz each) Betty Crocker™ classic gel food colors
  • 3 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Original Rainbow Chip Frosting
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously spray 3 (8-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend cake mixes, water, oil, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes, pausing to scrape the sides occasionally. Divide the batter equally among 6 small bowls, about 1 1/3 cups in each.
  • Add a pop of vibrant color to your batter by tinting each of the six bowls with food color: blue, red, green, yellow, orange (mix red and yellow), and purple (mix blue and red).
  • Chill the 3 different colored batters until needed. Divide the remaining 3 colored batters evenly among the cake pans.
  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until the cake springs back when touched lightly in the center and starts to pull away from the pan's sides. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to cooling racks and cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Prepare cake pans by washing them thoroughly. Follow the baking instructions for the remaining 3 cake layers and allow them to cool as directed.
  • If necessary, trim the rounded tops of the cakes to level them. Place the purple cake layer on a serving plate and spread frosting within 1/4 inch of the edge. Layer the blue, green, yellow, orange, and red cakes on top, repeating the process. Apply a light coat of frosting on the side and top of the cake to seal in crumbs, then frost again with the remaining frosting.
