Cheesy breakfast casserole with buttery bread, baked in a delicious custard.
Ingredients:
  • 10 slices stale white bread
  • 0.25 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 3 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups half-and-half cream
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions:
  • Butter one side of each bread slice and cut into quarters. Arrange half of the bread, butter side down, in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Add half of the Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Layer the rest of the bread over the cheese and top with the remaining halves of the cheeses.
  • Combine eggs, half-and-half, milk, brown sugar, salt, pepper, cayenne, onion powder, mustard powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Pour mixture over cheese and bread. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight. Enjoy!
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Bake the strata uncovered for 1 hour. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes, then slice and top with fresh parsley before serving.
