Elevate your holiday feast with a twist: stuffed ham, a delicious alternative to traditional turkey.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pork boneless leg (fresh ham), 4 pounds
  • Salt
  • 3 cups water
  • 6 medium onions, chopped (3 cups)
  • 2 cups soft bread cubes (3 to 4 slices)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage leaves, crushed
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Lay out the pork and season with a sprinkle of salt.
  • Boil water in a 2-quart saucepan and add onions. Cook for 5 minutes, then drain. Combine onions with the rest of the ingredients. Spread half of the stuffing over the pork and roll it up, securing with metal skewers.
  • Place the pork fat side down on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Spread any leftover stuffing on top of the pork. Insert a meat thermometer into the center of the thickest part of the pork, making sure it doesn't touch the stuffing. Roast uncovered for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until the thermometer reads 165°F.
  • Let the pork rest under a cozy aluminum foil tent for 15 to 20 minutes until the thermometer reaches 170°F. This allows the juices to settle and the meat to become easier to slice. Remove the foil and skewers, then slice into portions.
