Rum and Cola Birthday Cake

Indulge in a decadent Rum and Cola Birthday Cake made with devil's food cake mix and cola, topped with irresistible rum buttercream frosting. A perfect treat for adult celebrations!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix or 1 box Betty Crocker™ Delights Super Moist™ Dark Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups cola carbonated beverage
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 2 tablespoons rum extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease and lightly flour 2 (9-inch) round cake pans.
  • Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions, using oil and eggs, but replace the water with a carbonated beverage. Bake and cool as directed on the package.
  • In a spacious bowl, use an electric mixer on low speed to beat butter for 1 to 2 minutes until creamy. Slowly incorporate powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in rum and rum extract. Beat until frosting is smooth and easy to spread.
  • Place the first cake layer on a serving plate with the rounded side down. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Then, add the second cake layer on top, rounded side down. Frost the side and top of the cake with the remaining frosting and decorate to your liking.
