Veggie-packed sausage rolls with a kid-friendly twist.
Ingredients:
  • 400g sausage mince
  • 300g chicken mince
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 medium zucchini, grated
  • 65g breadcrumbs
  • 60.00 ml chopped parsley
  • 1.25 gm ground nutmeg
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper
  • 4 sheets frozen puff pastry, semi thawed
  • 10g sesame seeds
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and prepare 2 baking trays with parchment paper. 2. Combine both types of mince, onion, garlic, carrot, zucchini, breadcrumbs, and parsley in a bowl. 3. Beat 1 egg and mix it into the mince mixture. Season with nutmeg and seasoning. 4. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions.
  • Cut the pastry sheets in half lengthwise. Spread a portion of the mince mixture down the center of each pastry half. Use the remaining egg to brush the edges of the pastry.
  • Roll up the dough to envelop the filling, then slice into 6 pieces. Arrange on trays with the seam side facing down. Brush with egg wash and generously sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Bake at the initial temperature for 20 minutes, then lower the heat to 180°C and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes until beautifully golden. Serve alongside a side of tomato sauce.
