Elevate your party spread with these gourmet Sausage Rolls - a delicious twist on classic pigs in a blanket using fresh sausages and pizza dough. Ideal for potlucks, Game Day, and holidays!
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/4 pounds fresh pork sausage links (about 4 normal-sized sausages)
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 pound cold pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Yellow or brown mustard, to serve
  • Pickles, to serve
Instructions:
  • Broil the sausages: Preheat the broiler and adjust the oven rack to 6 inches below. Use a paring knife to prick the sausages all over. Place them on a broiler pan or oven-safe skillet and coat with oil. Drizzle a bit of olive oil on the pan underneath the sausages. Broil for 4 minutes per side until cooked through (about 8 minutes total). Let them cool on paper towel-lined plate. Cut each sausage into 16 equal pieces (about 1 1/2 to 2-inch lengths).
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Remove the dough from the fridge and place it on a lightly floured surface. Flatten it into a disk, then roll it out with a rolling pin into a 9x12-inch rectangle. Cut into 1/4-inch wide strips horizontally. Some dough may be leftover, which you can use for garlic knots. Brush with butter and garlic, then bake until golden, along with the sausage rolls.
  • Prepare the sausages: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Wrap each sausage with dough from top to bottom, securing the ends underneath, and place them on the baking sheet. Repeat for all sausages.
  • To bake the rolls, combine egg, water, and salt in a bowl and brush the mixture over the tops and sides of the rolls. Bake for 25 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until the rolls are deep golden-brown. Let cool for 5 minutes, then serve with mustard and pickles.
