Indulge in the classic charm of red velvet cake with rich color, light chocolate flavor, and luscious cream cheese frosting - effortlessly delicious!
Ingredients:
  • 2 (1 ounce) bottles red food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2.5 cups flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1.5 pounds confectioners' sugar, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare two 9-inch cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  • Combine red food coloring and cocoa powder in a small bowl to create a paste. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together 1/2 cup of butter, sugar, and eggs until smooth. Add the red color mixture, salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, then gradually mix in buttermilk and flour until smooth. In a small bowl, mix baking soda and vinegar, then stir into the batter. Pour batter into cake pans.
  • Bake the cake in the preheated oven until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center, for about 25 to 35 minutes. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely.
  • Combine softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl with vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Gradually add confectioners' sugar until frosting is thick and spreadable. Frost fully-cooled layers.
