Delicious nut cake recipe from a former Army sergeant turned chef in Savannah, GA. Perfect served warm or cold.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup chopped black walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and generously grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  • Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy in a large bowl. Add eggs one at a time, mixing until the yellow disappears. Combine flour, baking powder, and cinnamon, then stir into the creamed mixture with milk alternately. Stir in vanilla and walnuts, then pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 90 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
