Highlight the rich, earthy taste of black walnuts in this traditional American recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 1.6667000055313 cups white sugar
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.125 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon black walnut extract
  • 1 cup chopped black walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), then give those two 9-inch round cake pans some love with a good grease and flour. Next, sift together your flour, salt, and baking powder and set it aside for later.
  • Cream together the butter, shortening, and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk, mixing well. Stir in the vanilla and walnut extract, then gently fold in the nuts.
  • Divide the batter evenly between two 9-inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
