Create your own flavorful sazón at home with a blend of achiote, salt, cumin, coriander, garlic, onion, oregano, and black pepper. Perfect for adding a burst of flavor to meats before grilling, frying, or roasting.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 2 tablespoons achiote (annatto) seeds
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Grind cumin, coriander, and achiote seeds: For best results, use an electric spice grinder, blender, food processor, coffee grinder, or mortar and pestle. Simply process the seeds until they become a fine powder, ensuring to avoid overfilling if using a grinder. With a mortar and pestle, grind the seeds with firm pressure until reaching the desired texture.
  • Prepare the spice mix by mixing ground cumin, ground coriander, ground achiote, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a medium bowl.
  • Sift spices through a fine mesh sieve over a large bowl to remove any large particles or spice husks.
  • Transfer sazón to an airtight container and store in a cool, dark place at room temperature for up to one year.
