Elevate your pizza with a flavorful Sicilian crust infused with Italian herbs and basic pantry staples.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup warm water (95 to 110 degrees F/35 to 43 degrees C)
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, mix warm water and yeast until yeast is dissolved. Allow the mixture to sit until a creamy foam forms, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the yeast mixture into a big bowl; combine with shortening, salt, sugar, and Italian seasoning. Mix in flour manually until dough forms.
  • Transfer dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth for about 5 to 8 minutes. Place it in a large greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Gently press down on the dough, allowing it to release air for 3 to 5 minutes. Shape into a ball, then spread and stretch it over a pizza pan. Allow to rise for 15 minutes before adding toppings and baking.
