Skinny Grilled Sausage and Pepper Pizza

Elevate pizza night with grilled sausage and peppers pizza, offering a healthier twist with 64% less saturated fat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 large red or green bell pepper, cut in half lengthwise, seeds and membranes removed
  • 1 can (13.8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Classic Crust Pizza Crust
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup Muir Glen™ organic pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups reduced-fat shredded Italian cheese blend (6 oz)
  • 8 oz lean Italian turkey sausage, casings removed, cooked, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
Instructions:
  • Preheat gas or charcoal grill. Cut a 18x12-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil and place it on a large cookie sheet. Spray the foil with cooking spray and set it aside.
  • Grill pepper halves over medium heat until crisp-tender, turning occasionally, for 3 to 5 minutes. Let them cool, then slice thinly.
  • Place the dough on a foil-lined baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Gently press and stretch the dough from the center outwards until it forms a 13x9-inch rectangle. Brush the top of the dough with 1 teaspoon of oil.
  • Place the dough directly on the grill rack with the oiled side facing down. Remove the foil carefully and put it back on the cookie sheet with the sprayed side facing up. Grill uncovered for 2 to 4 minutes until the bottom of the dough is golden brown, watching closely to avoid burning. Flip the crust with a wide metal pancake turner and cook for an additional 1 to 1.5 minutes until the bottom is set but not browned. Gently take the crust off the grill and transfer it, browned side up, back onto the foil on the cookie sheet.
  • Spread a generous layer of pizza sauce over the crust, then add 1 cup of cheese, the grilled pepper slices and sausage. Finish by sprinkling the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and oregano on top.
  • Transfer the pizza from the foil onto the grill. Then, cover the grill and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the bottom crust turns golden brown and the cheese has melted.
