Easy slow cooker sticky soy beef ribs - tender and flavorful, perfect for entertaining.
Ingredients:
  • 21.60 gm honey
  • 18.40 gm vegetable oil
  • 1.6kg No Added Hormones Beef Short Ribs
  • 250g turnip, peeled, cut into 3cm pieces
  • 40g ginger, thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 4 spring onions, cut into 3cm lengths
  • 80ml shao hsing wine
  • 60ml honey
  • 80ml soy sauce
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick or quill
  • 60ml vegetable oil
  • 3 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 60ml malt vinegar
  • 31.50 gm Asia Soy Sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp sesame oil
Instructions:
  • In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, sizzle the oil until shimmering. Season the beef generously and sear for 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until beautifully browned.
  • Place the beef in a slow cooker along with the turnip, ginger, garlic, spring onion, Chinese cooking wine, honey, soy sauce, star anise, cinnamon, and 4 cups (1L) water. Cook covered on high for 4 hours (or on low for 8 hours) until the beef is tender.
  • For the ginger dressing, gently warm vegetable oil and ginger in a small saucepan. Cook for 4-5 mins until ginger turns golden. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  • Place the beef and turnip on a plate and cover them with foil to keep warm. Strain 2 cups (500ml) of cooking liquid into a frying pan and bring to a high heat. Simmer for 8 minutes or until slightly reduced. Add the beef and turnip to the pan, coating them evenly. Transfer everything to a serving platter and finish with a drizzle of dressing.
