Spiced apple slow-cooker cake: effortless perfection ready after dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup dried apple slices, coarsely chopped
  • Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed, if desired
Instructions:
  • Grease a 5-quart slow cooker generously with cooking spray. Arrange 2 (30-inch-long) strips of parchment paper in a crisscross pattern on the bottom and up the sides of the slow cooker, then line the bottom with another piece of parchment paper. Give the paper a light coating of cooking spray.
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cloves in a medium bowl. In a separate small bowl, whisk together applesauce, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla, and egg. Mix the applesauce mixture into the flour mixture until smooth. Fold in dried apples. Pour the batter into the slow cooker and spread evenly.
  • Cover and cook on High heat for 1 to 1.5 hours until puffed and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into wedges, serve warm, and top with whipped topping.
