Quick and easy homemade coffee cake with a sweet crumb topping, perfect for cozy get-togethers.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup shortening
  • 0.75 cup milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan. Create the topping by combining 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon butter. Set it aside for later.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, and 1/2 cup of sugar in a large bowl. Add shortening and mix until it resembles fine grains. In a separate small bowl, beat the egg, then add milk and mix. Gently incorporate the wet mixture into the dry ingredients with few strokes.
  • Pour batter into pan and generously sprinkle topping. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until cake passes toothpick test. Serve hot.
