Impress your guests with this irresistible pull-apart sourdough checkerboard bread oozing with seasoned butter and Swiss cheese, baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (1 1/2) pound round loaf sourdough bread
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt (such as Spice Islands® Beau Monde Seasoning)
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1 pound Swiss cheese, sliced
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
  • Using a serrated knife, create a checkerboard pattern on the sourdough bread round by making 5 or more slices about 1 inch apart, being careful not to cut through the loaf completely. Rotate the bread a quarter turn and make another set of 5 or more slices to complete the pattern, ensuring they remain attached at the bottom.
  • Gently melt butter on low heat in a saucepan, then combine with mustard, lemon juice, poppy seeds, seasoned salt, and onion. Spread this flavorful mixture generously over the bread loaf on a baking sheet, making sure to fill the cracks. As a final touch, tuck Swiss cheese slices between the bread squares.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the loaf is nicely browned. Serve by letting guests pull the bread into individual squares.
