Classic Southern cornbread dressing with shredded chicken - perfect for holiday feasts and family gatherings.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup chopped onions
  • 0.5 cup chopped celery
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf cornbread, crumbled
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf day-old white bread, torn into small pieces
  • 1 pound shredded, cooked chicken breast meat
  • 4 cups chicken broth, or more to taste
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Sauté the onions and celery until tender, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, mix crumbled cornbread and white bread pieces together.
  • Combine the cooked onions and celery with the bread mixture. Stir in shredded chicken, 4 cups of chicken broth, condensed soup, eggs, poultry seasoning, pepper, and garlic powder. Mash together until the mixture is gelatin-like. Adjust the consistency by adding up to 2 more cups of broth. Pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Bake until the dressing is beautifully golden brown, for approximately 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
