Ingredients:
  • 2.25 pounds white asparagus
  • salt to taste
  • 0.25 cup butter, divided
  • 1 pinch white sugar
  • 7 ounces sliced ham
Instructions:
  • Using a vegetable peeler, delicately peel asparagus spears from top to bottom, starting below the tips. Trim off the woody ends with a knife.
  • In a wide saucepan, arrange asparagus spears and cover with lightly salted water. Bring to a boil, then add 1 tablespoon of butter and sugar. Simmer gently until asparagus is tender, about 15 to 25 minutes. Drain thoroughly before serving.
  • Gently melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter in a small pot over low heat.
  • Individually wrap asparagus spears with ham and place on a plate. Finish with a luxurious drizzle of melted butter.
