Total Time:
Homemade cake mix, top with rich chocolate frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) while coating two 9-inch round pans with a delightful layer of grease and flour.
  • First, melt the chocolate in a double boiler over hot water. Allow it to cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each addition is well incorporated before adding the next.
  • Combine flour and salt, then alternate adding with milk to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined. Mix in chocolate until fully incorporated. In a small cup, combine vinegar and baking soda until soda dissolves. Add to batter and beat until smooth.
  • Transfer the batter into the pans and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
