Cozy split pea soup with potatoes, carrots, celery, marjoram, and savory ham chunks, ideal for chilly days!
Ingredients:
  • 1 potato, diced
  • 2.25 cups dried split peas
  • 2 quarts cold water, plus more as needed
  • 1.5 pounds ham bone
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch dried marjoram
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 3 carrots, chopped
Instructions:
  • Collect all the ingredients needed for the recipe.
  • In a large stockpot, submerge peas in cold water by a few inches; soak for 8 hours to overnight. Drain, rinse, and return peas to the pot.
  • In a stockpot, combine 2 quarts of cold water, ham bone, onion, salt, pepper, and marjoram. Cover and bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Discard ham bone; dice meat and add back to soup.
  • Toss in the vibrant trio of celery, carrots, and potatoes.
  • Simmer vegetables uncovered until tender, for 30-40 minutes.
