Cozy split pea soup with hearty veggies and smoked ham for the perfect winter meal. Easy to make with just 6 ingredients. Warm your body and soul with every spoonful.
Ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 cups dried split peas, (1 pound), sorted and rinsed
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 2 medium celery stalks, finely chopped (1 cup)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 ham bone or 2 pounds shanks
  • 3 medium carrots, cut into 1/4-inch slices (1 1/2 cups)
Instructions:
  • Combine split peas, water, onion, celery, pepper, and ham bone in a 4-quart Dutch oven.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat. Cover and gently simmer for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, or until the peas are tender.
  • Separate the ham from the bone, trim any excess fat, and cut the ham into 1/2-inch pieces.
  • Combine the ham and carrots in the soup and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for around 30 minutes until the carrots are tender and the soup reaches your preferred thickness.
