Colorful doughs create easy, rich and buttery melt-in-your-mouth cookies with just a slice and bake.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter-flavor shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 10 drops red food color
  • 16 drops yellow food color
  • 9 drops green food color
  • 3 tablespoons pastel-colored confetti candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. 2. Line the bottom of a 9x5-inch loaf pan with plastic wrap. 3. In a large bowl, cream together sugar, butter, and shortening with an electric mixer until smooth. 4. Add egg, milk, and vanilla to the mixture and blend well. 5. Slowly mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until a dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into 3 equal parts. Knead a different food color into each part. Press one colored dough into the bottom of the pan. Layer the remaining colored doughs on top, pressing each firmly to seal.
  • Place the dough slices on ungreased cookie sheets, ensuring they are 2 inches apart, and sprinkle with candy sprinkles before baking.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the bottoms turn a light golden brown. Allow to cool for 1 minute then transfer from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
