Dutch stroopwafel: Crispy waffles with rich treacle filling.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses or black treacle
  • 1.3333333730698 cups soft brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup butter
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, 1 cup of melted butter, white sugar, milk, egg, and yeast. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Cover with plastic wrap, allowing it to rise for about 45 minutes.
  • Combine treacle, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a small saucepan and melt over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Stir until the filling is smooth.
  • Preheat the waffle iron as per the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Shape dough into small balls, approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter to fit your waffle iron.
  • Bake 1 ball of dough on preheated iron until golden brown and iron stops steaming, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Remove with a cake spatula, then trim edges for a perfect circle using a round cutter. While still hot, slice the dough horizontally into 2 rounds. Spread 1 to 2 tablespoons of filling on each round, then sandwich them together. Repeat with remaining dough.
