Indulge in this simple Southern sweet potato pie made with boiled sweet potatoes for a truly divine dessert experience.

  • 1 (1 pound) sweet potato, with skin
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
Instructions:
  • Place a whole sweet potato in a pot and cover it with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender when pierced with a fork, for about 40 to 50 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drain the sweet potato and rinse under cold water, then peel and discard the skin.
  • Place the sweet potato flesh in a bowl and blend it with butter using an electric mixer until fully combined.
  • Combine sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla in a bowl, then beat on medium speed until smooth.
  • Gently fill the indulgent mixture into the awaiting pie crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 55 to 60 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the dish to cool to room temperature before serving.
