Purple taro bread rolls - sweet, buttery, and uniquely delicious with a Hawaiian twist.
Ingredients:
  • 1.3333333730698 cups warm water (90 degrees F (32 degrees C))
  • 1 cup poi (taro root powder)
  • 2.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon purple food coloring
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, or as needed
Instructions:
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, mix water, poi, butter, egg, yeast, and purple food coloring. Allow the mixture to sit until the yeast softens and creates a creamy foam, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in sugar and salt.
  • Gradually add flour on low speed until dough forms a smooth texture.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured work surface and portion it into 18 pieces, shaping each piece into a roll.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), then gracefully line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Arrange the rolls on the baking sheet, then cover and allow them to double in size, approximately 20 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the bottoms begin to brown.
