Classic Oyster Dressing: A Thanksgiving essential with breadcrumbs, celery, onion, and butter.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 0.75 cup chopped onion
  • 12 cups fresh bread cubes
  • 1.5 pints fresh oysters, coarsely chopped and liquor reserved
  • 1.5 cups chopped celery with leaves
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon thyme leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon poultry seasoning
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a Dutch oven or large heavy pot, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté onion until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat and combine with bread crumbs, oysters, oyster liquor, celery, salt, black pepper, thyme, and poultry seasoning. Transfer mixture to a baking pan, cover with aluminum foil, and bake.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, then bake uncovered until lightly browned, about 20 more minutes.
