Juicy bourbon cocktail made with homemade peach basil syrup. Perfect way to unwind.
Ingredients:
  • 4 ripe unpeeled peaches, pitted and coarsely chopped
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 sprigs basil, tied together with string
  • ice cubes, divided
  • 1.5 fluid ounces bourbon
  • 3 dashes aromatic bitters (such as 18.21 Prohibition Aromatic Bitters)
  • 2 fluid ounces lime-flavored sparkling water (such as La Croix®)
  • 1 slice peach
  • 1 leaf basil
Instructions:
  • In a small pot over medium heat, unite chopped peaches, sugar, water, and 3 sprigs of basil. Allow the mixture to simmer, occasionally stirring, until the sugar dissolves, approximately 5 minutes. Cool the syrup to room temperature for about 10 minutes, then remove and discard the basil sprigs.
  • Pour the luscious syrup into a charming Mason jar, tightly seal it, and let it chill in the refrigerator until perfectly cool, approximately 1 hour.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine 3 fluid ounces of syrup and peaches. Muddle to break peaches up. Add bourbon, bitters, and 4 ice cubes. Shake vigorously until ice is mostly melted. Pour into a chilled 8-ounce glass, add 4 more ice cubes. Gently stir in sparkling water. Garnish with a peach slice and basil leaf.
