A unique and unforgettable strawberry pie with a delicious family history, reminiscent of Grandma's special recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and place a drip pan on the lowest shelf to catch any pie juices.
  • Prepare the topping by combining 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup flour, butter, and nutmeg in a medium bowl until fluffy.
  • Gently toss cleaned strawberries in a deep bowl. In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and cornstarch. Sprinkle mixture over berries, ensuring they are coated without crushing them.
  • Place the berries into the pie crust, piling them in the center to ensure they stay juicy. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the berries, and dot with approximately 15 small pieces of butter. Protect the crust edges by wrapping them with foil to prevent over-browning while baking.
  • Bake pie in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 20 minutes, then lower heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and bake for another 40 minutes. Sprinkle extra sugar on crumb topping during the last 10 minutes of baking.
