Irresistible custard recipe using milk and eggs, with the option to enhance with amaretto liquor. Customize flavorings to taste, but go easy on almond extract. Ensure perfect texture by using a water bath.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup coconut milk
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Combine buttermilk, coconut milk, milk, water, and eggs in a large bowl. Mix with an electric mixer until smooth, being careful not to over mix to prevent bubbles. Add white sugar, brown sugar, salt, vanilla extract, coconut extract, and almond extract. Pour into 8 custard cups or ramekins.
  • Transfer the custard-filled dishes to a deep-sided baking sheet or casserole dish. Place in the oven and carefully pour hot water into the dish, ensuring it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dishes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, ensuring the water level is maintained to prevent dryness. Check for doneness by inserting a knife into the center until it comes out clean. Remove ramekins promptly from the water bath upon completion to prevent overcooking. Allow the water bath to cool in the oven for safer removal.
